PJ Library Raise the Roof - Newton

Celebrate Sukkot! During the harvest festival of Sukkot, all are welcome into a temporary shelter or hut called a Sukkah that was used by farmers when harvesting their crops before the winter rains in ancient times.

Enjoy an afternoon creating an art project to decorate our community sukkah, shaking up some homemade lemon-lime sorbet, sipping fall beverages (for the parents), dancing with music from around the world and supporting children experiencing food insecurity. We will also welcome award-winning local author Laya Steinberg as she reads her PJ Library book "The Best Sukkot Pumpkin Ever," signs books and answers questions.

Let's raise the roof and celebrate together through the sharing of food and joy with our whole community.

Newton Food Pantry provides Kid's Bags to local families every week filled with snacks and drinks. We will be decorating and filling bags together. Please bring any of the following items with you to the event. Thank you for supporting our community!

-Individual microwavable container of Mac & Cheese

-Snack size fruit cup ( oranges, peaches or mixed fruit)

-Apple sauce pouches

-Granola bar, any kind (NO peanuts or nuts)

-Small single serving boxed milk (white or chocolate)

-Capri Sun (or similar) 100% juice box or packet

-Snack bags of Popcorn, Pop Corners, Goldfish or Cheez-Its
